Stroup(e) Reunion Extras 2019
Greetings
from the President of the 90th Stroup(e) Reunion!
I am looking forward to a
great crowd and great celebration at the reunion on Sunday, August 4th
and the Mount Zion/Cherryville field trip on Saturday the 3rd. The greater Charlotte area offers other
opportunities for fun and entertainment that make it worthwhile to extend your
trip. I have included a sample list
below with links to their respective websites. Remember all websites begin with http://www.
1) Carowinds Amusement Park (carowinds.com/):
The newest ride at the Cedar Fair operated park is the Copperhead Strike – a
double launch coaster that will knock your socks off.
2) Carolina Harbor Waterpark (carowinds.com/play/carolina-harbor):
If you are not into thrill rides you can relax and swim at the water park, rent
a cabana, or just soak up some sunshine.
3) US National Whitewater Center (usnwc.org/): Whitewater boating
& rafting and much
more – flatwater kayaking, paddle
boarding, zip lines, biking, hiking, climbing & rope courses for all ages.
4) Discover Place (discoveryplace.org/):
Three museums – Discovery Science (Charlotte), Discover Nature (Charlotte) and
Discovery Kids (Huntersville and Rockingham). Includes an IMAX theater and
wonderful hands-on exhibits. Targeted for kids; adults will enjoy it also.
5) NASCAR Hall of Fame (nascarhall.com/):
Much more than a museum! Multiple tours and activities are available. Check the
Events Schedule for those that interest you!
6) Kings Mountain State Park (southcarolinaparks.com/kings-mountain):
Camping and swimming are available just South of I-85 in South Carolina.
7) Kings Mountain Military Park (nps.gov/kimo/index.htm):
Across the state line, just north of the SC State Park, learn how the locals
from NC, SC and TN overwhelmed the British and Loyalist under Colonel Ferguson
and turned the tide of the Revolutionary War in the South.
8) Crowders Mountain State Park (ncparks.gov/crowders-mountain-state-park):
Multiple hikes and beautiful views of Charlotte and the surrounding area.
9) Lake Norman State Park: (ncparks.gov/lake-norman-state-park)
Boating, fishing, swimming, and camping. During weekdays you can drop in on the
McGuire Nuclear Plant visitors center.
10) The Schiele Museum of Natural History (schielemuseum.org/):
Founded by scouter and naturalist Bud Schiele and Gaston County in 1961, the
museum houses nature and history exhibits and a planetarium. Bopy Scout Troop
323 of Cherryville put many services hours into exhibit construction and
maintenance.
11) Mint Museum (mintmuseum.org/):
Unique art galleries, crafts and other exhibits.
12) Reed Gold Mine (reedgoldmine.org/):
Relive the North Carolina Gold Rushing Days in Cabarrus County.
13) Levine of the New South (museumofthenewsouth.org/):
North Carolina and Charlotte’s history viewed through the eyes and hearts of
many cultures.
Other local museums
include:
14) Gaston County Museum (gastoncountymuseum.org/)
15) Brevard Station Museum of Stanley (brevardstation.com/)
Many Stroup/e items/history presented
here.
16) Cherryville Historical Museum (cherryvillemuseum.com/)
Lots of Stroup/e items/history presented here.

And there
others I am sure I have left out. Contact me & they will be added for next
